Manaus (AM) – Without reform for more than 20 years and with only four ICU beds in an old structure, the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Hospital Infantil Dr. Fajardo, located on Avenida Joaquim Nabuco, Centro, underwent expansion. Governor Wilson Lima delivered, this Tuesday (31), the unit that now has nine highly complex beds, one of which is for isolation, meeting technical standards.

“We are delivering a renovation and expansion of the structure where the ICUs are housed. This is a propitious moment, because the cases of respiratory syndromes increase significantly and consequently Dr. Fajardo, as well as those others who are a reference in pediatric care, end up being in great demand,” said Governor Wilson Lima.

In addition to expanding the service capacity, precisely during the seasonal period of respiratory diseases, which mainly affect children, the unit also now has a bed for infants and underwent revitalization and expansion works with the objective of bringing improvements to the structure, generating more comfort and safety for patients and staff.

Carried out by the Government of Amazonas, through the State Department of Health (SES-AM), which manages the hospital, the revitalization began in the second half of 2022, receiving investments from the Fund for Social Promotion and Eradication of Poverty (FPS), transferred through the State Health Fund (FES).

“We changed the entire ICU. All equipment, beds were changed, so it is a fully modernized ICU and in the physical space within the norms of the Ministry of Health”, highlighted the secretary of SES-AM, Anoar Samad.

Investment

In all, R$581,900 were invested, of which R$500,000 were earmarked for overhauling electrical installations, replacing floors and walls, expanding the medical gas network, new bathrooms for patients and professionals, and expanding five more beds. of ICU. The other R$81,900 were devoted to the general revitalization of the unit’s artesian well.

“A significant gain, by order of the governor. The return is wonderful for the children to have the opportunity to be in a modernized place, with modern equipment, modern equipment and a technical team of high capacity, doctor, nurse and nursing technician”, evaluated the director of the Hospital Dr. Fajardo, Aly Ballut.

Reference in pediatric care in Amazonas, the unit currently performs pre-scheduled consultations such as: pediatric surgery, plastic surgery in patients with cleft lip and palate, pediatric endocrinology, pediatric gastroenterology, pediatric orthopedics, pediatric urology, (services regulated by Sisreg), clinical pediatrics; for carrying out laboratory tests, X-rays and ultrasounds.

“It is a pediatric ICU, so we have this part of humanization that is very important in relation to children. We have an isolation bed, which will help a lot with these flu syndromes at this time of the greatest viremia that we have here in the state”, warned the ICU doctor, Rondinelli Matos, adding that the new structure is excellent and will provide more convenience to the services performed.
