Wilson Lima announces a study to expand the Bumbódromo

Parintins (AM)– Highlighting the success of the 56th Parintins Folklore Festival, the governor of Amazonas, Wilson Lima, announced the carrying out of studies to expand the Bumbódromo, stage of the dispute between Caprichoso and Garantido. The goal is to expand the capacity of the structure, which currently holds around 25,000 people.

On Sunday (2) the third and last day of presentations of the bumbás took place and it is estimated that 120,000 people visited the Tupinambarana Island during this entire edition. In addition to the sponsorship of the Government of Amazonas, the party has the support of several State agencies that expand services – such as health and safety – during the Festival.

This year, the Cultural Center of Parintins, the Bumbódromo, completed 35 years. In addition to being the Festival’s arena, the space houses the Lyceum of Arts and Crafts Claudio Santoro, a unit in Parintins, which offers dance, theater, visual arts, audiovisual and popular music classes.

“Any detail that we are going to do, especially when dealing with a large work like the one we intend to do, I need to study with the City Hall, I need to talk to Caprichoso and Garantido, talk to the artists so that we can make a project that gives the conditions for the oxen to make their presentation”, said the governor of Amazonas.

The Bumbódromo also carries out projects to encourage reading and there are plastic art exhibitions and film screenings. It is also used as a space for local artists to present their productions and for holding national and regional events and shows.

The venue has a Multipurpose Room and Multimedia Room; with the Wandir Santos and Jair Mendes Art Galleries; Cineclube Odinéia Andrade; Fred Góes Library and Puppet Theater; and with the Memorial dos Bumbás Caprichoso e Garantido.

Still according to the governor, in this edition, the Festival showed that it is on “another level” and that there is no more room for mistakes. For Wilson Lima, a necessary and immediate step is the good management of resources. In 2023, the Government of Amazonas alone transferred R$ 12 million, with R$ 6 million for each boi-bumbá.

“The president of the boi manages a company and lives depend on this administration, and it’s not just people from the shed, it’s not just artists, there are people who come from Manaus, a man or a woman who comes from other river channels, people who come from Brasília, São Paulo, as authorities, international observers”,

State Services

For the Parintins Festival, the Government of Amazonas set up a large structure for people’s comfort and safety. In partial balance, the public movement until this Sunday registered more than 550 boats and 700 flights. Just through the Turistódromo installed in Praça da Catedral, where State services are offered, 50 thousand visitors passed.

In the economy, it already registers more than R$ 921 thousand in sales made during the week of the Festival, at the handicraft and entrepreneurship fair. In Security, the organization’s staff of 1,000 resulted in a reduction in thefts ranging from 40% to 55%, considering the two Festival nights and the Visitors’ Party, compared to 2022.

In terms of sustainability, until this Sunday, more than 4.7 tons of waste had been disposed of correctly. In Health, the two ambulances available at the Bumbódromo attended to 93 people in three nights (two during the Festival and one during the Festival of Visitors).

In the Social, more than 17,000 food items were collected during the exchange of tickets for the Visitors’ Party, in addition to carrying out approaches to children under 10 years of age present at the site.
