Damián Szifron at a press conference after ‘Wild Tales’ was nominated for an Oscar in 2015 Rodrigo Abd/AP After nine years since his masterpiece, “Wild Tales” (2014), Argentine director Damián Szifron guarantees that he has plans for two sequels – and promises they won’t take that long. He is soon releasing his thriller about the hunt for a murderer, “Sede Assassina”, in Brazil, but he spoke to g1 about the ideas he gathered from his last film, which earned him a foreign language Oscar nomination (the complete conversation goes be published closer to the premiere). The original “Wild Tales” told six different stories about desperate people. Sequences should follow the pattern, but with some new features. One, which Szifron calls the “Wild Planet”, grew out of his travels around the world in the promotion of the first film. “I saw things and learned about the particular idiosyncrasies of each place. The way people think and live. There are many things that look like Argentina and, at the same time, many different and special things,” he says. Watch the trailer for the original 2014 ‘Wild Tales’ “Different stories, taking place in different societies, spoken in multiple languages. I find it powerful and poetic.” The second is a slightly more direct continuation – even though the plots are totally new. “Different, but they happen in Argentina, and that would allow me to work with great actors who couldn’t participate in the first one”, says the director. “I don’t know if you know their work, but the cast of ‘Relatos Selvagens’ is like a dream team in Argentina. They are all very popular and amazing. But, of course, we have more. And in a sequel that happens here It will allow me to work with some actors that I want to share a creative process with and that would make a lot of sense.” Damián Szifron Disclosure
