WhatsApp has launched a new mode in beta that allows you to connect four cell phones to a single account. The functionality has been available since Tuesday (10) for testers, who have early access to possible updates to the application.
The function, called companion mode, is only available on Android devices. It is possible, however, to use an Android phone to connect to accounts used on iPhones. The information was published by the specialized website WABetaInfo.
Questioned via the press office about the update and plans to launch it for the general public, Meta, owner of WhatsApp, did not respond to the request for the report until the publication of this text.
Also according to the WABetaInfo website, companion mode has been available since November 2022 to a group of testers selected by the WhatsApp team.
To link a second Android device to WhatsApp account, testers need to follow these steps:
- On your second Android phone, download the latest beta version of WhatsApp Messenger or WhatsApp Business. You can sign up for the trial program at this link on the Google Play Store
- On the app account login screen, select the ellipsis (“…”) button in the top right corner of the app screen and select the “Connect to a device” option
- Open WhatsApp on your primary device, go to “Settings” and select “Connected Devices”
- Point this device at the QR Code displayed on the secondary cell phone screen
The process is similar to connecting to WhatsApp Web. The limit of four devices connected to a single profile in the application is also valid for accessing computers via the internet.
Connecting WhatsApp to a new phone syncs chat history across all linked devices.
While companion mode has been rolled out to all beta testers, some functionality may not yet be available, such as the ability to manage broadcast lists and post a status update from the linked device, says the WABetaInfo website.
