WhatsApp may stop working at any time, starting October 24, on cell phones with operating systems prior to Android 5.0. This is because the application will stop supporting previous versions on that date, according to an update on the messaging application website.
The app will no longer receive updates on these devices with older versions.
Today, the messenger is recommended for Android 4.1 or higher devices and on devices with iOS 12 —incompatible, for example, with the iPhone 5— or later.
On October 24 last year, the app stopped being supported on iPhones equipped with iOS 10 and iOS 11.
Unsupported smartphones also no longer receive features increased by WhatsApp, such as sending videos in real time, announced last Thursday (27).
Android 4.1 was released in 2012 and was equipped on Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini VE and Galaxy Ace. Android 4.4 is from 2013 and equips Samsung’s Galaxy A7 and A5, and Lenovo’s Vibe Z2.
Sought by the report, WhatsApp declined to comment on the matter.
