WhatsApp announced, this Monday (22), the launch of a feature to edit messages. The company added the option to the application for part of the users, including Brazilians.
The update “will be available to everyone in the coming weeks,” the statement reads. People with the update will have up to 15 minutes to change the message content.
To rectify messages, users need to press the bubble with the incorrect excerpt until options appear. On iPhone, just click “Edit” and change the text. On Android devices, you need to click on the ellipses (“…”) and select the “Edit.”
This option already appears in publications and comments on Facebook and Instagram, social networks of Meta, owner of WhatsApp. The Discord chat app also allows for message editing.
Edited snippets will appear with the word “edited” along with the time in the footer so the recipient is aware of the change. “As with all personal messages, media files and calls, your messages and the edits you make are protected with end-to-end encryption,” says Meta in a note.
On Twitter, users celebrate that they will retire messages to rectify mistakes.
Others say that editing messages will increase the possibility of stealth in the app.
