The tax reform rapporteur, Deputy Aguinaldo Ribeiro (PP-PB), said this Tuesday (4) that it is a commitment not to burden the basic food basket. Other points in the text are still being negotiated with party leaders, governors and mayors, such as the centralization of tax collection in the Federative Council, the Regional Development Fund and the transition rules.
“We are not going to burden the basic basket, because that is the commitment of the reform. It is a matter for the Brazilian State and I am not going to get involved in a political dispute over a structural issue for the country”, said Ribeiro.
The rapporteur pointed out that the reform has been the subject of numerous meetings and that the text is “in the final adjustments”, informed Agência Câmara. “We are in a moment of dialogue and we are going to make the convergence between the suggestions of the states in everything that is possible. If there is no consensus, we will go to the panel”, he said.
Ribeiro confirmed his intention to start voting on the proposal this week and stressed that the analysis of the reform is independent of the project’s vote on the tie-breaking vote in Carf decisions (PL 2384/23), which locks the voting agenda. “These are distinct discussions”, he reinforced.
