Waste recycling materializes Fiema’s proposal

The CDR replaces the green petroleum coke – this obtained from the processing of liquid petroleum fractions, that is, a fossil fuel and pollutant. Through Proamb, the plastic is transformed into a blend that will be used in co-processing by the cement industry – the residue becomes a substitute for petroleum coke, in addition to being used for plastic waste. “With this, it helps to reduce coke consumption and has a very big economic advantage”, highlights Basso.
The process that generates fuel from waste is an example of the solutions presented to visitors to the fair: more environmentally appropriate alternatives to what can represent a problem for companies in any sector. After all, they are all responsible for the final destination of the waste they generate, they are encouraged to seek renewable energy, save and reuse water, and the list goes on.
There is, in the midst of business, a growing demand for companies to deliver more than their final product, but also the complete concept of sustainability – the tripod environmental preservation, social responsibility and governance, the ESG (acronym in English). “With the existing international agendas, demands or the need for an answer to the issue of the environment will accelerate more and more”, assesses Jonas Brevia, president of Fiema. “That, whether you like it or not, makes companies alert and, when it starts, it becomes a chain process”, he adds.

Headquartered in Bento Gonçalves and business units in three other cities in the state, Proamb operates, in addition to co-processing, a waste disposal center and transhipment. And, following what is advocated by the national solid waste policy, Basso recalls that only what has no solution goes to the landfill, the waste for which there is still no technology available for its reuse.
“We work on engineering for the non-production of waste. If I’m generating a lot of waste, it’s because my process is out of order or I don’t know the level of waste I’m having”, points out Basso. To show the role of monitoring in waste management, Fiema itself generates data on how much material is discarded at the fair, its type (post-consumer, bathroom waste, organic or construction waste). “We’re going to have a magnitude (of what was generated) to bring different solutions at the next event”, projects Brevia.
