This statement was made by the president of the Federal Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), this Monday (6)
During the BTG Pactual event, in São Paulo, held this Monday (6), the president of the Federal Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), confirmed that the vote on the tax reform should take place this week. Between Wednesday (8) and Thursday (9), the Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ) must analyze the proposed amendment to the constitution (PEC) of the reform. The proposal must be approved in two rounds.
The president of the Senate once again spoke of his commitment to the government’s economic agenda that seeks to increase revenue, but stated that Congress will need to discuss the issue of public spending.
The senator denied having defended the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, after President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva stated that the government will “hardly” close the fiscal deficit in 2024. “What I do is defend good causes. It was not a defense by Minister Haddad. It was defending a thesis,” he said. “A zero deficit target was established and we need to continue pursuing this.”
During the event, the president of the Senate once again defended the discussion about the end of re-election in Brazil for the positions of president, governor and mayor. “I consider it to be the right time,” he said.
