Vehicle production grew 27.4% in May, according to data from the National Association of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (Anfavea) released this Tuesday (6). There were 227,900 units, of which 175,100 were cars and 42,500 light commercial vehicles.

The result is also 10.7% higher than the same month of 2022 and comes a day after the government announced a subsidy program for automakers that will allow dealerships to grant discounts on brand new cars at the time of sale.

“Only with the discussion we had, three automakers decided to suspend their lay offs and stoppages to meet the demand. This is very positive with regard to jobs and the chain of components and supplies”, said Márcio de Lima Leite, president of Anfavea, about the new government program.

On the other hand, the licensing of new vehicles grew less in May compared to April, only 9.8%, and fell 5.6% compared to the same month last year. Passenger cars, one of the targets of the new government program, fell 8.6% in the annual comparison.
