Vehicle production in Brazil fell by 19.4% in April, according to a balance sheet by the National Association of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (Anfavea) released this Monday (8). There were 178.9 thousand units produced in the month against 221.8 thousand in March.

The fall in production was due to 13 stoppages promoted by automakers with plants in Brazil due to the decrease in demand for vehicles and difficulty in accessing credit.

The number of license plates was also lower in April, 19.2% compared to March, but 9.2% higher compared to the same month of 2022. “Even with credit difficulties and high interest rates that affect mainly sales in the retail, we have sold 633,000 units so far in 2023, 14% more than last year, when the crisis was just a lack of supply”, says Márcio de Lima Leite, president of Anfavea.

Anfavea found that truck sales fell 16.5% compared to April last year, “confirming the challenges of introducing the eighth phase of the emissions control program, which left national products in line with the most advanced global models , but with an inevitable increase in cost”.

On the other hand, in the accumulated result for the year, the Brazilian industry of motor vehicles had an increase of 4.8% in comparison with the first four months of last year, totaling 714.9 thousand units.
