Despite the reduction in the number of checks cleared in 2022, the total financial volume of documents remained stable, rising from BRL 667 billion in 2021 to BRL 666.8 billion last year. The survey also showed that the average value of the check increased from 2021 to 2022 – from R$ 3,046.52 to R$ 3,257.88. “The numbers show that the population is using the check for higher value transactions, while the PIX is used as a means of payment for lower value transactions, such as purchases with self-employed professionals, and also to settle small family debts or among friends”, evaluates Walter Faria, Deputy Director of Services at Febraban.
