The trade union centrals presented to the government, this Monday (23), a proposal for readjustment of the minimum wage with a fixed rate of 2.4% per year, plus losses due to inflation and GDP variation of two years ago. In practice, the proposal has an average adjustment of 4.2% per year, from 2024 to 2026.
The unions’ suggestion was delivered to the Minister of Labor and Social Security, Luiz Marinho, during the first meeting of the working group that was created to draw up the proposal for valuing the minimum wage.
The union centrals also ask for a permanent readjustment policy for the period between 2027 and 2053, based on the variation of the annual INPC. “With this valuation policy and assuming that the GDP grows at or below the historical average since the Real Plan (2.4% pa), it would take 28 years for the minimum wage to return to the real value of the minimum wage in the year of its creation ( R$ 2,441.38) and 34 years for its value to reach 50% of the Minimum Wage Necessary of DIEESE (R$ 3,273.89)”, explains the unions in the document.
They also propose a real increase equivalent to the GDP variation of the previous 2 years and the establishment of a “floor” for the real increase of 2.40% pa. The policy must be reviewed every 10 years.
At the meeting there were representatives of Dieese and entities such as Força Sindical, CUT, UGT, CTB, CSB and Nova Central. The WG and the technical secretariat will meet, on a regular basis, weekly and, on an extraordinary basis, whenever necessary, convened by the respective coordinator. The final report on the activities of the working group will be forwarded to the heads of bodies represented therein.
