Union central calls Marinho to talk about layoffs – 06/03/2023 – Panel SA

Concerned with the increase in cases of large retailers in financial difficulty in the scenario of high interest rates, UGT (General Union of Workers) invited the Minister of Labor, Luiz Marinho, to a meeting at the headquarters of the trade union central, on Friday (10), in Sao Paulo.

The organization is going to tell the minister that fears are growing that a wave of unemployment in trade in general is on the way.

“We are living a complex moment in retail. There is a systemic crisis, and several large companies, which generate a lot of jobs, are in a serious situation. , drop in consumption and low-income employment”, says Ricardo Patah, president of UGT and the Commerce Workers Union of São Paulo.

“It could bring consequences that go beyond the crisis in Americanas. There is Marisa, Tok&Stok, Livraria Cultura, and commerce in general is suffering this impact from defaults and high interest rates”, he says.

According to Patah, the debate on working in apps and union reform will also be on the agenda.
