Under Elon Musk, Twitter changes logo to X and spawns memes – 07/24/2023 – #Hashtag

Elon Musk’s Twitter left behind the classic blue bird and adopted a white X on a black background as the social network’s new logo. The change is part of a Musk project, publicized since the company’s acquisition in 2022, to transform the short text platform into a superapplication that would have the lyrics as the title – and would be able to incorporate messages, payments and business.
X also makes up the brands of other companies of the billionaire, such as SpaceX and Tesla, and refers to the website X.com, an online bank co-founded by Musk in 1999 and later transformed into PayPal.
Internet users were also surprised by another aspect of the new logo: the design, which is not the original. It is the letter X in the typography of the Special Alphabets 4 font, available for free download.
The tycoon also stated that the tweets, as posts on the network are called, would be called Xs.
The disappearance of the blue bird, loved by internet users, generated a mostly negative repercussion on the network, which can be accompanied by the terms “Elon Musk” (which already has around 338,000 mentions on the platform) and “TwitterX” (with around 149,000 mentions).
The new letter was compared to the logo of Caixa Econômica Federal and the pornography site XVideos by Brazilians and, in memes, internet users joke that the bird is one more to be hit by the wave of layoffs promoted by Musk since he took over the company.
Many demonstrate resistance to the new name. “The concept of Twitter was so cute: the logo is a bird and the posts are ‘tweets’, basically ‘peeps’ that birds make. Now it’s going to be ‘look at the X I sent you’, ‘let me open the X’. How boring!”
The blue bird icon was nicknamed Larry The Bird (Larry, The Bird, in English) and was created as a tribute to American basketball player Larry Bird, star of the Boston Celtics team.
According to former Twitter executive director Doug Bowman, the depiction of the animal, which looks slightly upward, was meant to express “freedom, hope and limitless possibilities”.
This is yet another change in the billionaire’s erratic management that is not well received by users of the platform and, once again, they discuss, after all, what will be the fate of the social network. Netizens struggle to understand the rationale behind Musk’s decisions.
Meanwhile, in his account, the tycoon praises the new visual identity. He claims that the letter X “embodies the imperfections that make us unique”.
