Ultra Air: Colombian airline stops operating – 03/30/2023 – Market

On Wednesday afternoon (29) the Colombian low-cost airline Ultra Air announced that it had suspended its operations.
Through a statement, the company said that it deeply regrets not carrying out any of its scheduled routes, due to “adverse macroeconomic situations” and pressure from aircraft rental companies to ensure the collection of the respective fees.
According to Ultra Air, tensions with lessors worsened after the fall of Viva Air, which suspended operations in late February. The company claims to have received requests for advances on supplies and services, an operation that “is unusual in this sector.”
Last week, Ultra Air even suspended the sale of tickets, but then resumed, saying that it had secured a new capital contribution from the partners. The plans, apparently, did not pan out.
According to the Aviación Online website, Avianca has indicated that it will increase its Ultra Air passenger protection plan, under conditions similar to those offered to Viva Air customers, which suspended operations on February 27
“Given public information and seeking to preserve the stability of the Colombian air system, Avianca indicates that it extends its protection plan to users of the Ultra airline,” said the company.
