The Leviatã Team presented a solar-powered catamaran boat at its stand at the Quality Fair
Manaus (AM) – During the Quality Fair days, at Studio 5, students from the Higher School of Technology at the State University of Amazonas (EST/UEA) and those participating in the Leviatã Team presented a catamaran-type boat powered by solar energy at their stand. Recently the team was featured in the 2023 Solar Brazil Challenge, held in Niterói (RJ).
Mechanical engineering student, Antônio Ferreira Fernandes, aged 20, said that the extension program brings together other engineering areas such as electrical, naval, control and automation at the University.
“Our objective with the boat is to popularize knowledge of solar energy and improve our knowledge learned in the classroom. We work with mechanical, naval and electrical systems”,
he said.
Team Leviatã was founded in March 2015, by UEA students. It was created with the aim of developing a Catamaran model vessel powered exclusively by solar energy, applying knowledge in forms of clean energy.
“We want to implement this in the future in a way that is accessible to the public, because, as there are regions of difficult access in Amazonas, the cost of fuel is one of the main factors. Our Catamaran is charged in the morning and depending on the battery bank, you can spend 6 to 8 hours sailing without worrying about charging,”
said Antonio.
Student Marcus Alan Barros, 21 years old, also reinforced his friend’s speech about participating in the project.
“I managed to learn a lot of things in the Team, from people management to the structural issues of the boat, planning, building and other points. We are around 20 students, plus coordinating and sub-coordinating teachers”, he said.
For the four days of the Quality Fair, Leviatã set up a rotation scheme between members, to participate in the event and, therefore, not disrupt the classes that have already started.
The students were present: Antonio Fernandes, Marcus Alan Barros, José Cavalcante, Leurry Navarro, Wicttory Leônidas, Sheyka Vargas, João Lacerda and Elias Cunha.
In addition to the other visitors, the team had the opportunity to present the project to Suframa’s superintendent, Bosco Saraiva.
The fair
From October 18th to 20th, the Amazonas Quality Program Fair (PQA) presented visitors with a vast and diverse program, which included lectures with national personalities, as well as prominent businesspeople and academics.
It also featured a display of the 56 companies competing for the PQA Award (Amazon Quality Award) 2023 and stands of the organizations present. The initiative is from Fieam (Federation of Industries of the State of Amazonas), through Dampi (Department of Assistance to Medium and Small Industries), in partnership with Sebrae-AM (Brazilian Support Service for Micro and Small Businesses – Amazonas Section ).
