Elon Musk’s Twitter restricted yet another feature of free users of the social network. Now people who don’t pay the R$42 monthly subscription are blocked from messaging accounts that don’t follow them.
The platform changed user privacy options without notice last Sunday (16). Added the option “Allow message requests only from verified users” and turned it on for people accepting contact requests from anyone.
Currently, only those who pay for Twitter Blue are verified on the social network. The novelty has not yet been announced among the advantages of subscribing to the package.
In Portuguese, there were few reactions to the novelty. English-speaking users, however, complain that the change can disrupt the work of some professionals who use the network to get in touch with people.
Since Elon Musk bought Twitter in October last year and announced the intention to earn money with subscriptions, profiles have lost access to functions that were previously free.
Twitter limited the number of tweets seen and messages sent per day, restricted access to platform data and removed the free two-factor authentication option via SMS.
The social network also stopped distributing verification stamps to personalities who do not subscribe to Twitter Blue.
The choices are part of the social network’s strategy to influence users to pay for the package of benefits.
Contacted by the report by email, Twitter responded automatically with an emoji in the form of feces. The social network has not had press representation in Brazil since October last year.
