Twitter considers the term ‘cis’ slanderous, says Elon Musk – 06/21/2023 – #Hashtag

Using the term “cis” or “cisgender” — which designates anyone who is not a trans, transvestite or non-binary person — to refer to someone on Twitter is considered slander and understood as harassment, and could lead to suspension from the platform, according to Elon Musk , owner of the network.

The publication was made in response to a user subscribing to Twitter Blue, a paid verification service launched by the South African billionaire’s management. In the original post, James Estes describes himself as the founder of Thoughtful Therapists, an entity that militates against the rights of the trans community, such as access to medical care throughout the transition.

On its website, Thoughtful Therapists claims to fight against what it calls “gender ideology” and advocates the creation of a law to prohibit medical care for children and adolescents during gender transition for children and adolescents.

It is not the first time that Musk has come out against the demands of the trans community, which, in the US, along with the rest of the LGBTQIA+ population, is the target of a conservative crusade, which ranges from anti-drag laws to disputes over the school curriculum.

Just that month, the billionaire used a meme to make fun of trans people.

Musk has a trans woman from his first marriage to Justine Wilson. In June 2020, her daughter Vivian Jenna Wilson filed a lawsuit to make her name official and remove Musk’s last name, with whom she said she did not want “to be related in any way”. He attributes the rupture to “communism” and the influence of “neo-Marxists”.

In 2020, the executive made a publication stating that “pronouns suck” (“pronouns are a bag”). The publication was understood as a position against a common request among trans people: respect for adopted pronouns. His ex-wife, Grimes, responded by saying she couldn’t support the hate and asking his ex to “please stop. I know your heart isn’t like that.”

She deleted the post shortly thereafter.

Musk’s latest publication involving trans community issues comes amid the growing space that hate speech has come to have on Twitter, whose moderation team has been reduced globally. With the new verification system, profiles that disseminate attacks against minorities now have greater reach.

He recently went online to ask the creators of the Fall Of Civilizations podcast to also use Twitter as a platform for their content. In public response, they replied that they would not, as the network would be “too compromised” and become an “oasis for hate speech, while crypto scammers and bots pay” to have more visibility and engagement.

“Everything that once made Twitter special seems to be disappearing,” they concluded.
