Twitter Blue arrives in Brazil for BRL 42 per month – 02/08/2023 – Tech

Twitter Blue arrived in Brazil this Wednesday (8) costing from R$ 42 per month. The subscription service gives the user access to features such as the blue verified account badge, halving timeline advertisements and early use of new features.

In mobile applications, the subscription is more expensive, BRL 60 per month, due to the commission charged by the App Store and Google Play stores. For the computer, in addition to the monthly plan, users can opt for the annual plan, which costs R$440, a 12% discount.

Twitter Blue also allows you to edit tweets five times within 30 minutes, use NFT images in your profile and upload videos in Full HD (1,080 pixels).

The price of the service is similar to that of a standard Netflix plan, which today costs R$39.90 per month (without ads).

The announcement was not made officially —the account @twitterbrasil it hasn’t been updated since October 2022. The company’s blog in Portuguese, for example, still says that the service is only available in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

The implementation of Twitter Blue is one of the fiascoes of the social network under the command of Elon Musk, who took control of the company in October.

The service’s launch in early November led to a wave of fake accounts, which could pay $8 for the stamp and impersonate officers. Hours later, the platform tried to create a second emblem, exclusive to the authentic accounts of influential people and entities (a kind of “verification of verification”).

Subsequently, Musk himself suspended Twitter Blue, about a day after it went live. The program, one of the billionaire’s main bets to balance the company’s accounts, returned in December.

This Wednesday, the social network also announced that Blue subscribers in the US can now write tweets of up to 4,000 characters.

In addition to changes to Twitter Blue, changes to the way social network content is displayed have confused users.

A platform update released in January split the timeline into two tabs: “For You” and “Following”. The change affected Twitter’s main page, the first seen when entering the site and which traditionally displayed content published by accounts followed by users.

Now, the “For You” page, displayed by default, shows both tweets from accounts and topics followed by the user and those recommended by the platform’s algorithm based on what it infers about their interests. In addition, it does not display the contents chronologically.

The “Following” tab only displays tweets from followed accounts, and in chronological order.

More than 500 advertisers paused on the network between the Musk takeover and January, according to technology website The Information.
