TV Folha: combating inequality is the theme of the live – 02/22/2023 – Tv Folha

According to data from FGV Social, the middle class lost the most income during part of the coronavirus pandemic, which led to increased income inequality in Brazil. Among the poorest, incomes remained virtually unchanged, thanks to the payment of Emergency Aid.

The survey, based on 2020 income tax returns and IBGE surveys, points out that the middle class (Brazilians located between the poorest 41% and the richest 10%) lost 4.2% of their income in the first year of the pandemic.

Among the poorest, the crisis leads to hunger – at the turn of 2021 to 2022, more than 33 million Brazilians lived in households with one or more people who could not eat at least one day in the three months before the survey carried out by Rede Penssan (Brazilian Research Network on Food and Nutritional Sovereignty and Security).

The same survey showed that, in 2022, 1 out of 3 Brazilians answered that they had already done something that caused them shame, sadness or embarrassment to get food.
