‘Truth always comes out’, says Lucinha Nobre

Backstage at Rio’s carnival continues to be hectic with the samba schools renewing themselves, as they look to the 2024 competition. Portela, for example, dismissed the flag bearer Lucinha Nobre and replaced her with Squel Jorgea, who has more than 20 years of career in the area, with passages through large schools.

“Guys, the truth always comes out. It’s no use wanting to distort the facts. The truth loves to come out. I’m dumbfounded, but I’m not surprised”, said Lucinha Nobre, without naming names, on the day her replacement was announced.

Squel’s talent is undeniable, but it caught the attention of carnival fans, since she was retired. Lucinha’s outburst completed the clues. Would the replacement be all set up long before the centennial parade took place?

“To the curious, like me. Lucinha left Portela and they announced a girl who said she was ‘retired’. Lucinha still suffered in the parade with a wig, and everyone knows how this world is and the boycotts that roll”, wrote one follower. “Guys? You kick Lucinha as if she were trash and announce the new flag bearer on the same day? Don’t you have the slightest respect? She was our flag bearer for years, she gave blood and love for our school! I’m horrified”, complained a fan. “I was also amazed. I read and reread it, it seems like a soap opera. It makes perfect sense. What a situation”, lamented another internet user.

Regardless of the answer, or the theories of the followers, Lucinha continues without school and regretted the resignation of Portela.

“Honestly, I wanted to sit and cry all night, but I can’t. I’m going to swallow this crying and concentrate on my other passion, which is commenting on Carnival. Anyone who sees me will always see me smiling”, said Lucinha, at the time.

Lucinha Nobre saw her wig fall off at the Portela parade in the second module of the trial, where the front committee also had setbacks. On social networks, the passista apologized to the fans, but still made a joke to move on.

“I would like to say that I’m very sorry. I’m very sorry. What happened to me in this fashion show I never wished on anyone. But I can already say that I lost my mind for Portela”, said Lucinha on Twitter.

The Hiring of Squel

On social networks, Portela highlighted the entire curriculum of the new flag bearer. She will parade in 2024 with Marlon Lamar, who has been in Portela since 2018.

“I’m very moved, flattered, the penny hasn’t sunk in yet. I confess that I’m out of breath, I’m at a loss for words. But I’m very grateful for the opportunity to go back to dancing at a school like Portela, which is the dream of so many girls and women, because being Portela’s flag bearer is a dream. I’m very happy and feeling very honored”, said Squel.
