Traditional Itacoatiara Music Festival shakes up the population with 100 musical attractions

Itacoatiara (AM) – The traditional Itacoatiara Song Festival (Fecani) began its 38th Edition on Wednesday (6) at the Juracema Holanda Events Center, in the municipality of Itacoatiara (276 kilometers from Manaus). The program runs until Saturday (9) with free entry and broadcasts on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube (@fecanioficial).
Promoted by the Association of Itacoatiarenses Residents in Manaus (Airma), the event features 100 musical attractions, 96 regional, four national and 34 artists participating in the eagerly awaited music competition. In addition, there are more than 30 cultural and sporting activities during the four days of Fecani.
Among the national attractions are gospel singer Israel Salazar, who performed on the first night of the event; the band Bonde do Forró, which takes the stage this Thursday (7); the owner of the hit “Evidências”, Leonardo Sullivan and band, on Friday (8); and samba artist Neguinho da Beija-Flor, who ends his performances on Saturday (9).
Theme
This year, the festival focuses on environmental protection and the conservation of one of the most precious assets in the world, “Water”, the theme of this 38th edition of Fecani. Because of this, sections of the event’s main stage, Juracema Holanda, received graffiti paintings by artists Téo Braga and Nelson Freire to reinforce the importance of nature for human beings.
“Water is considered the oil of the future. Without it, we cannot live and we have to take care of this, prepare the future for new generations, preserving water sources and nature”,
highlighted Edgar Alecrim, responsible for Fecani’s art.
Historic
For Bruno Azedo, vice-president of Airma, holding the festival is a historic moment for maintaining an event listed as “Intangible Cultural Heritage of the State of Amazonas”, according to Law 3,983, of December 30, 2013, published in the Official State Gazette.
“The return of Fecani, being held at the Events Center, becomes a historic moment for the maintenance of a cultural heritage in Amazonas. This return only came to fruition due to the support of the Department of Culture and the State government, the press in general and the city of Itacoatiara itself, which provided the place that, in reality, was created due to the importance of the festival”,
he emphasized.
Schedule
The main competition of the event, the Music competition has 34 compositions participating. Of these, only one will be crowned with first place and a prize of R$16,000. The festival will also award 2nd place with R$ 12 thousand; the 3rd with R$8 thousand; the 4th with R$4 thousand; and the 5th with R$2 thousand.
The best musical arrangement, the best lyrics and the best performer will receive a prize of R$1,300 each. According to the Fecani notice, all classified songs from Brazil also receive a prize of R$600, while those from Itacoatiara are rewarded with R$400.
Also according to the regulations, the selected songs participate in two elimination rounds, with 17 songs presented on September 6th and another 17 on September 7th. The final takes place on September 8th.
Parallel to the music festival, there is the Itacoatiara Spoken Poetry Competition (Conpofai), which brings together poets, artists and composers already renowned in the municipality, such as professors Rafael Neves and Alcindo Andrade.
“I have participated, since the first Fecani, like every Itacoatiarense: watching. And as I had been a musician since I was 14, I was already writing and writing verses and the music came to show what I wrote and put in the drawer. Today, I am a Portuguese teacher and, in this edition, I participate with two poems”,
highlighted Alcindo Andrade.
Andrade, who is also a singer, composer and poet, says he will participate. His works will be defended by his two sons: Rauãn Pedro, aged 12, and the Ufam Software Engineering student, Raúl Berger, aged 19, who despite having autism was already champion of the event in 2017, when he was also awarded as declaimer revelation.
“My father always says that this is a gift that God gave me. It is challenging for me, as it was in the early years. But over time, as the editions came and I participated, it became natural for me”,
highlighted Raúl Berger.
Tourism and Economy
Boosting the city’s economy and tourism, Fecani is attended by at least 30 thousand people every year on each day of the festival. For Abrahão Matos do Santos, 59, from Itacoatiar, the event brings visibility to the city and provides different programming for all audiences.
“I’m evangelical and when there’s gospel music, I’m always here with my family and listening to beautiful music being played. It’s worth coming, because there are good things everywhere and this makes Itacoatiara noticed. Fecani, in addition to bringing cultural attractions, feeds our city with economy”,
