Tourist activities advance 7.4% in November in RS, according to IBGE survey

The index of tourist activities in Rio Grande do Sul increased 7.4% in November compared to October, according to the Monthly Services Survey (PMS) of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). The result was the first increase after four months of decline, when it accumulated a retreat of 14.7%. As a result, the tourism segment is 7.2% above the February 2020 level.

In the comparison between November 2022 and the same month of 2021, the index for the volume of tourist activities in the State rose 15%, the 20th consecutive positive rate. It was one of the most intense growths in the period, accompanied by São Paulo (0.7%) and Paraná (5.3%).

For the Secretary of Tourism, Vilson Covatti, the increase in demand in the State is closely linked, in addition to the work carried out by the private sector, to investment and promotion actions carried out by the public authorities, from reinforcing asphalt paving to technical assistance so that municipalities identify their tourist profile.

“Participation in fairs, for example, is fundamental to highlight the tourist vocation of the destinations, which are reinforced with the application of resources for infrastructure. The Avançar no Tourism program is a case in which the State injected funds of almost R$ 200 million to diversify the attractions of the municipalities”, says Covatti.

The Monthly Service Survey, developed by the IBGE since 2011, produces indicators that allow monitoring the conjunctural behavior of the services sector in the country and in several states.
