Tourism injects around BRL 170 million into the Amazonian economy in 2023, points out Amazonastur

Manaus (AM) – A survey by the Government of Amazonas, through the State Tourism Company (Amazonastur), pointed out that tourism promoted an injection of approximately R$ 170 million into the economy, in the first four months of this year, with the arrival of 55,930 thousand tourists to the state.
The data also show an increase of 8.3% in the tourist traffic in the state, in relation to the same period of the previous year.
“About 56,000 tourists went to the Amazon and each one spends an average of R$ 3,000. This demonstrates that our policy has been working, the resumption of important international flights has been paying off and for us this is very positive, job creation and income opportunity here in the capital and inland”,
highlighted the president of Amazonas, Gustavo Sampaio.
According to data from Amazonastur, 24% of tourists who arrived in Amazonas are foreigners (13,487), of which the main emitters were the United States (31.89%), followed by Germany (10.99%), Colombia (5 .51%) and Switzerland (3.51%). Among the large domestic emitters are the states of São Paulo (25.62%), Pará (21.60%) and Roraima (12.5%).
According to the survey, 28% of tourists visited the state for the first time and the average length of stay was 6.6 days. The tourist profile still includes men among the majority (53.19%), with an average age of 39 years, married marital status (44%) and higher education level (70.27%). The survey showed that the majority (62%) of visitors arrive alone in Amazonas, another 20% bring family members.
The main tourist destinations in Amazonas, according to the Amazonastur survey are: Manaus, Presidente Figueiredo, Parintins, Rio Preto da Eva, Iranduba, Novo Airão and Barcelos.
The most popular tourist activities, according to partial data for 2023, are work and business (45.49%), visiting friends and relatives (33.08%), Amazonian gastronomy (23.79%) and events such as fairs, congresses, exhibitions, concerts, conferences accounted for 20.82% of the tourist audience.
The data also show other activities as the favorites of visitors such as river tour (15.98%), forest hotels (13.71%), forest walks (13.38%), handicraft purchase (8.92%) , adventure (8.55%), indigenous community (8.18%), beaches (8.18%), waterfalls (7.81%), sport fishing (7.23%), visit to ecological parks (6. 32%), health care (6.32%), bird watching (4.09%), religious activities (1.11%), research and science (0.74%).
Movement 2022 x 2023
The movement of tourists in the State in 2022, totaled 363,843, while in 2021, it totaled 348,082, showing a growth of 4.53% last year. In 2023, 55,930 was the partial movement of tourists, in the first four months, which compared to the same period of 2022, represented an increase of 8.31%, since in that period the movement of tourists totaled 51,635.
