Top five wines to accompany your barbecue – 10/07/2023 – Nação Churrasqueira

This week, between the 3rd and 5th, ProWine took place, the main wine and spirits fair in Latin America. This is the second time I’ve been going, as I love checking out what’s new in the sector.

In Brazil, the consumption of wine at barbecues is still not widespread — my favorite pairing. Far beyond reds, we can make unusual combinations, like a rosé to accompany pork belly.

I decided to share here the top five wines that I liked most from this edition. I spoke to the sommeliers and winemakers at each winery and asked them for a suggestion to pair with the charcoal.

So write it down.

The white wine that surprised me the most was the Argentine Fuego Blanco Gewürztraminer 2023, with a bright, almost golden color and aromas of fruits such as peach, pineapple and green apple, as well as flowers and spices. Pairs well with fatty white fish, such as dorado, pacu or salmon accompanied by citrus sauce.

In second place, the also white Siegel Naranjo, 2022, from Chile, made with the viognier varietal. It has an orange color because it is fermented with macerated grape skins. On the nose it has sweetness with notes of spices, dried fruits, white flowers and also soft notes of peach; in the mouth, a soft acidity. It goes perfectly with grilled fruit desserts, such as strawberries with cream ice cream or pancakes with dulce de leche with a burnt sugar crust.

Next, the Uruguayan Pinot Noir Rosé Reserva 2023 from Bodega Garzon, with floral characteristics and aromas, reminiscent of rose, fresh strawberry and cherry. In the mouth, freshness and a vibrant acidity that reminds us of several sips… An excellent contrast with the cracked pork belly.

Second to last, Trivento Golden Reserve Malbec 2020, Argentine, with aromas of ripe red fruits and notes of spices, such as black pepper, and touches of wood. In the mouth, it is a wine with structured tannins. An excellent choice to accompany red meat, such as a juicy chorizo ​​steak.

And finally, the Passionais Reserva Andeluna 2019 Cabernet Franc, also Argentine, with notes of green pepper. Produced in limestone soil, it has higher acidity, with good structure, body and color. It goes well with lamb seasoned with salt, pepper and rosemary.
