Anatel announced this Thursday (27th) that it has authorized telecommunications service providers to implement protocols that make it possible to identify the name of the company and the reason for the telephone call to the consumer.
The intention is to increase the fight against abusive telemarketing and create tools that allow the person to decide whether or not to answer the call.
The agency informed that a service will also be launched that will avoid the practice of changing the numbers so that the consumer does not identify the same origin of the connection.
With the creation of this service, the agency believes that it will offer more security to the consumer and no longer need to resort to the use of specific numbers, such as the 0303 prefix, which currently identifies telemarketing calls.
Anatel did not disclose when the service will come into effect and which operators will adopt the measure.
Measures against abusive telemarketing
The agency also announced that it has extended until April 30, 2024 the blocking of companies that make many customer calls or that make “inefficient” calls (those that are disconnected as soon as the person answers).
The measure was also extended to all fixed and mobile telephony service providers. Until then, it was restricted to 26 companies with the highest volume of call traffic.
It is considered abusive telemarketing that made by companies that make about 100,000 calls a day, using robots to make the calls. Calls don’t always go through or they hang up as soon as the customer answers.
According to Anatel, 564 users were blocked and 24 sanctions proceedings were opened against companies that broke the rules to reduce the number of calls to the same customer. Fines can reach up to R$ 50 million.
“Some of the operators sought telephony companies that were not under Anatel’s command and, therefore, the measures are now focused on all telephony companies”, explained Cristiana Camarate, superintendent of Consumer Relations at Anatel, in an interview with Brazil Agency.
