Despite public pressure from former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), which included a public disagreement with governor and pupil Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicanos-SP), his party, the PL, cast 20 votes in favor of approving the tax reform on the night of this Thursday (6).
The largest bench in the Chamber, with 99 seats, the party threatened to “close the issue” against the reform, which would force the unanimous rejection of the proposal, under the risk of punishment, but after action by Tarcísio and the mayor, Arthur Lira (PP- AL), the party decided only to guide the vote against.
The following PL deputies voted in favor of the reform, that is, against Bolsonaro’s guidelines:
Antonio Carlos Rodrigues (SP), Detinha (MA), Giacobo (PR), Icaro de Valmir (SE), João Carlos Bacelar (BA), João Maia (RN), Josimar Maranhãozinho (MA), Junior Lourenço (MA), Júnior Mano (CE), Luciano Vieira (RJ), Luiz Carlos Motta (SP), Matheus Noronha (CE), Robinson Faria (RN), Rosângela Reis (MG), Samuel Viana (MG), Tiririca (SP), Vermelho (PR) ), Vinicius Gurgel (AP), Wellington Roberto (PB) and
Zé Vitor (MG).
Most of these deputies come from the northeast and are part of the centrão and not of the so-called “root Bolsonarismo”.
The PEC (Proposed Amendment to the Constitution) of the tax reform was approved in the first round by 382 votes and 118 votes against, with 3 abstentions.
