Kevin Parker, lead singer of Tame Impala, broke his hip just before the show, but he didn’t cancel. He explained to the g1 podcast he heard the decision to come to Lolla even on crutches. Kevin Parker, from Tame Impala, takes the stage on crutches at Lollapalooza 2023 Reproduction/Multishow The show started at 8pm. When he broke his hip and had to decide whether to come to South America anyway, on crutches, he knew that the headliner for the night alongside him, Blink 182, had canceled the show. If he cancelled, fans would miss out on the day’s two headliners. “My manager told me,” he told the g1 podcast he heard. “It was all the more reason to go on with the tour,” explained the effort. Two days after the post he fulfilled his promise. Kevin walked on crutches onto the stage at the Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City on March 11 and 12. Another auxiliary object was a chair, on which he sat during the songs in which he played the guitar. So he did the full 2 hour show. He spoke to the g1 podcast heard via audio call after the shows in Mexico. When asked if his hips were better, the musician revealed where the pain really is: “My ass? It’s better yes…”, he said with a laugh. “I’m feeling good. It’s a slow recovery, but every day it gets a little easier. I’m trying to be at peace with it all,” he says. At the Mexico show, he even got carried away and pretended to play guitar with his crutch. The Mexico shows “were great,” he says. Latin audiences make up for the lack of movement on stage and make a “special” performance. “At the end of the day, we’re playing music, and the music is the same. The show is the same. And it’s been good. Better than I expected,” he says.
