Sustainability: Jornada Carbono Zero will be a pillar of Brazilian companies in the coming years

Manaus (AM) – The use of advanced technology is one of the pillars of the development of the Brazilian economy, which aims to eliminate carbon emissions by 2050. With the need for adaptation by companies operating in the country, the search for more efficiency and productivity associated with the reduction of natural resources will continue to be discussed in the coming years.

Businesses that rely on sustainable practices from their management to production aimed at the end consumer collaborate with the environment and attract investors who are interested in socio-environmental commitment. After all, this type of partnership generates impacts on different sectors of society, resulting in more jobs, international visibility, new consumer audiences and business consolidation.

Currently, the strongest companies in the Brazilian economic scenario have sustainability sectors that influence management, logistics, production and encourage circularity. This adaptation, which began voluntarily, is close to becoming mandatory after the regulation of the carbon market, which should take place in the coming months. The proposal covers the creation of the Brazilian Trading and Emissions System. As a result, businesses that do not regularize themselves may suffer serious sanctions.

The mechanism establishes that companies that release more than 10 thousand tons of carbon into the atmosphere will be obliged to monitor and report their annual emissions and removals. Failure to comply with the rule imposed by the SBCE provides for punishments such as a fine of R$5 million or 5% of gross revenue. Other sanctions determine the loss of tax benefits and the prohibition of contracting with the public administration for three years.
