Supermarkets launch iFood-style national app – 04/30/2023 – Panel SA

Abras, an association that represents the main supermarket chains in the country, intends to launch a shopping application in the second half of the year to compete mainly with iFood and Rappi, which surf in the delivery business.
The entity states that it has already opened Supapp Marketplace Intermediações de Negócios, a company that will act as intermediary between supermarkets and consumers. The name of the app has not yet been defined.
Around 94,000 establishments associated with 27 state supermarket entities in the country will be able to sell through the platform, which, in addition to the delivery app, will also have a website.
The objective of the business is also to democratize the digitization of the sector, mainly for small companies, which today do not have the resources for a competitive operation in the digital environment.
Large networks, which already operate with their own e-commerce systems (including delivery) will also be able to join the Abras app.
To avoid conflicts of interest, supermarkets or companies in the consumer products industry cannot become partners in the company.
By statute of the newly opened company, half of the revenue generated from sales by the new platform will be distributed among state entities associated with Abras (national).
The other half will remain with Abras, which will allocate 50% of this amount to investments in associative activities.
