João Galassi, president of Abras (association of supermarkets), met with vice president Geraldo Alckmin this Thursday (13) to take the request for differentiated treatment in the taxation of basic foodstuffs, an industry claim in discussions of tax reform.
“When governor of São Paulo, Alckmin reduced taxes and zeroed the tax on basic basket items, such as rice and beans. Today, during our meeting, he said he was in favor of the single tax model with multiple rates, even reinforcing that it is necessary a zero rate for basic foodstuffs”, says Galassi, who is also president of Unecs (an entity that brings together representatives of commerce and services).
In addition to Galassi, the president of the CNDL (confederation of shopkeepers), José Cesar da Costa, and deputies and senators of the Parliamentary Front for Commerce and Services participated in the meeting.
