Students participate in the closing of the ‘Cultural Cup’ in Manaus

Manaus (AM) – Exhibition, dramatization and cultural dances with students from Manaus City Hall marked the end of the project “Cultural Cup: rescuing folk expressions in municipal schools”, developed in 58 teaching units from the 6th to the 8th year, of the Municipal Department of Education (Semed) . The event took place in the auditorium of the municipal education network, on Avenida Maceió, in the Adrianópolis neighborhood, Central-South zone, and brought together around 170 students.

The project, coordinated by the Subsecretariat for Educational Management (SSGE), seeks to provide students with knowledge about cultural manifestations and carry out research, so that they can look at Amazonian culture, like a foreigner, who is enchanted by Amazonian art.

According to the head of the Elementary Education Division (DEF), Josseane Silva, the Cultural Cup is part of Strategic Goal number 30 of the Government Plan of the mayor of Manaus, David Almeida, which has as its premise “Rescuing Folk Expressions” in 100% of primary education units in the final years, in the period from 2023 to 2024.

“This project is extremely important, due to the recovery of national culture. This is developed throughout the school year and today we culminate with the participation of several schools, which are also discovering various talents”,

commented Josseane.

With traditional tunes of the Garantido and Caprichoso oxen, and Amazonian legends, the students performed several presentations. The first was the municipal school Ebenézer, on the Rio Negro, in the Ribeirinha area, with the theme “Amazon Folklore: mystical manifestation of a people of the forest and the waters” and they choreographed the song “O canto da Yara”.

“I didn’t know this song, but I was enchanted. For all of us, it was a lot of emotion to participate in this event, we rehearsed a lot and it turned out beautiful”,

said 12-year-old Ariane da Silva, who played the mermaid.

Students from São Judas Tadeu school told the story of “Mapinguari in defense of the forest”, which excited the audience.

“Talking with our teacher, we decided to tell the ‘Legend of Mapinguari’, since all the students found it interesting, and we started rehearsing. We did a lot of research and it was really cool to meet this legend and today we brought it to the end and I think it worked, as everyone applauded”,

said excited actress Alinny Oliveira, 15 years old.
