Students from Amazonas compete in technical skills tournament in Espírito Santo

Espírito Santo (ES) – Between the 24th and 27th of October, in Vitória (ES), two young students will represent Amazonas in the 4th edition of the Senac Professional Education Competitions (CSEP). The tournament takes place every two years and aims to bring together talents from each of Senac’s Regional Departments across Brazil to demonstrate the technical skills learned throughout their academic journey at the professional education institution. The CSEP has a qualifying nature for one of the largest knowledge tournaments in commercial activities, WorldSkills 2024, which will take place in Lyon, France.

In total, tests will be carried out in seven categories associated with the goods, commerce and services sector. In the current edition of the ‘Senac Professional Education Competitions’, Amazonas will have participants in two of the seven assessment modalities.

Participants

Inspired by her mother and grandmother, Gabriela Picanço, 18, will compete in the tests on the profession of Hairdresser. Counting down the days until her first plane trip to another Brazilian state, the student dedicates 10 hours a day to training and perfecting the knowledge obtained during the course she takes at Senac-AM.

“At the age of 12, I was already helping my mother in the salon and what marked me was working at a big fashion event doing hairstyles. Expectations are good, and representing Amazonas in the ‘Senac Competitions’ is an honor”,

In another evaluation field, Juan Pablo, 16, will participate in competitions in the florist category. For him, having the opportunity to exercise his creativity in floral art and a recent trip to Holambra (SP) are some of his motivations for continuing on his learning path.

“I chose to be a florist because I was interested in the profession and I love the creative side. There are no limits and I think that’s great. I’m quite confident. I train in the morning and study flowers at night,”

Technical support

Since June, Gabriela and Juan Pablo have had the support of teachers and experts from Senac-AM in their preparation routines for the “Senac Competitions”. A hairdresser for more than two decades, Gledson Ferreira points out that the preparation stages observe basic concepts of theory and practice in each of the modules.

According to the professional, confidence is one of the factors that enhances the development of skills.

“We observe developments and difficulties. If the competitor has her fundamentals consolidated, she can carry out the work without depending on the coach. The challenges are gigantic, we don’t always have the ideal support for training, on the other hand, when I see in the eyes of the student whose dream is to change her life through the art of beautification, we overcome all the obstacles, that’s when talent screams!”,

Having been a florist for 15 years, Tania Sagae Yano adds that, in addition to training on the practices that will be required at CSEP, taking care of the mental health of these young people is essential.

“The biggest challenge is to ensure that the competitor reaches the end motivated and psychologically strong to be able to withstand the pressure that comes with representing Amazonas in such a huge event with such responsibility. Due to the age of the participants, this is usually the first experience in which they are exposed to such responsibility and visibility, which can be both motivating and paralyzing. For this, my biggest challenge as a coach is to be the support point where the competitor can trust that they are doing a good job”,

On their trips, Amazonas representatives will continue to count on the support of their coaches. A coordinator from Senac-AM will also assist them.

Senac Free Program

Gabriela and Juan Pablo are students of the Senac Free Program (PSG) – an initiative that dedicates full scholarships to people belonging to low-income families. According to the manager of the Senac Centro Unit, Daniele Lima, the project and its training paths provide quality education to those enrolled, allowing them to expand their professional and employability perspectives.

“PSG students’ participation in competitions can be a valuable opportunity to demonstrate their skills and talents, as well as to gain professional recognition. It is hoped that, with adequate support and training, these students will be able to excel in competitions and contribute to the growth of their careers,”
