The Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Cármen Lúcia decided this Monday (28) that the members of 123milhas are obliged to attend the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) of the Financial Pyramids in the Chamber this Tuesday (29). The magistrate assured that Ramiro Júlio Soares Madureira and Augusto Júlio Soares Madureira will be able to remain silent on questions that may incriminate them.
However, Cármen Lúcia stressed that they are forbidden to remain silent “in the face of questions that, clearly and objectively, in no way incriminate them, for example, regarding their personal data, qualifications, not being able to fail with the truth regarding the other questions”.
They asked the STF to be released from testifying to the CPI, but the minister denied this request. The call for businessmen was requested by the president of the collegiate, deputy Aureo Ribeiro (Solidariedade-RJ), after 123milhas suspended the issuance of airline tickets.
The decision also provides that businessmen may be accompanied by their lawyers during the hearing and must be “treated with civility and respect, as due in all cases and instances in relation to witnesses”. Earlier, the company reported that it had started an “internal restructuring plan” with employee layoffs. In a note, the agency stated that the “decision is part of the measures to mitigate the effects of the sharp decrease in sales”.
