Updated at 5:25 pm on 03/27/2023 – The Porto Alegre hotel chain expects an average of 90% occupancy in the sector’s undertakings in the three days of the South Summit Brazil, which runs from the 29th to the 31st of this month in the Capital. The rate was calculated this Monday (27) in the most recent survey by the Food and Accommodation Union of Porto Alegre and Region (Sindha).
The union bets on a complete stocking of luxury and super luxury rooms. The event should attract more than 20,000 people to the Capital. The main stage for conferences and business roundtables will be at Cais Mauá, on the shores of Guaíba and in the Historic Center portion.
On Wednesday (29), the first day of the meeting, the entity should disclose a new overview of capacity use. This year’s occupancy is driven by the consolidation of the event, which is in its second year, and the cooling of the pandemic, with the resumption of business tourism, which is one of the main sectors in the sector’s flow in the Capital. The last edition had 85% of seats filled.
The Capital has 7,630 apartments, which reach 14,490 beds distributed in 91 lodgings, according to data from the Sindicato da Hospedagem de Porto Alegre (SHPOA).
Operations such as the Plaza São Rafael, belonging to the Plaza chain, expects to be full in the three days, projects the operational and new business director of the Plaza Hotéis chain, Oscar Henrique Schmidt. At the weekend, the expected occupancy of the hotels was already at 90%.

The executive notes that the debut edition of the event had a differential that helped push to extend hosting, in a year of resumption after the pandemic. On the last day, there was a concert by the band Metallica, recalls Schmidt, and now there is no forecast of a name with such potential to attract the public.
“It would be ideal to have a big show on Saturday, which would hold visitors for another day or two”, associates the director of the Plaza. Schmidt mentions that the South Summit is already one of the main attractions for the sector, but the champion in terms of guest generation is Expointer, which takes place at the end of August. Plaza São Rafael forecasts an average increase of 15% in revenue in 2023.
“I believe we’re going to get close to 100% occupancy. The event moves a lot”, evaluates Brites. Last year, Moov was sold out, but not all floors were open. Of the visitors who have already booked seats this year, 92% are from Brazil and the rest from the United States, Indonesia and Japan.
For the managing director of Endutex, March changed the hotel panorama for operations like Moov. “In January and February, occupancy was very low. This month it has already improved a lot”, says Brites.
