Solar energy already represents 14.7% of the entire electrical matrix in the country, reaching the mark of 32 GW (gigawatts) in installed capacity in June.
This capacity results from generating sources, from large power plants to panels on roofs, facades and small plots of land.
The data compiled by Absolar (Brazilian Association of Photovoltaic Solar Energy) are already included in the ONS (National System Operator) balance sheet.
Investments continue to grow in the sector. In the first half of this year, they reached R$ 155 billion accumulated since 2012.
“Brazil woke up to solar energy”, says Ronaldo Koloszuk, chairman of the board at Absolar. “Taking advantage of this clean and cheap source of energy will help in the country’s reindustrialization process.”
