Snap, which owns Snapchat, said on Monday that it is launching an artificial intelligence chatbot powered by OpenAI’s ChatGPT technology.

The chatbot, called “My AI”, will be available to premium Snapchat+ subscribers, the company said.

“My AI” has been trained to have a fun, lighthearted tone and will be able to offer creative ideas such as potential gifts for a friend’s birthday or writing a poem about a certain topic, Snap said.

The company said the chatbot is “prone to hallucinations” and could be tricked into saying anything, adding that users shouldn’t rely on the bot for advice.

While AI-powered chatbots are a nascent field, early search results and conversations have made headlines with their unpredictability.

ChatGPT, which can generate texts in response to requests, has captivated the tech industry. Microsoft and Google announced their own artificial intelligence chatbots in early February.
