Five years ago, sisters Dilceia Pimentel and Goreth Busch launched the Bella Filó business, with kimonos that help women adapt, through different bindings, a work look to a night of fun. Versatility continues to guide the business, which has grown and gained more options on the racks. Not at all Carnival the proposal is different: the customer can buy and customize with accessories geared towards revelry, pieces that also work in everyday looks. In the last two weeks, with the campaign in effect, the sales up 20% at the store in Nova Iguaçu, in Baixada Fluminense.

— The carnival moves the whole store, it doesn’t conflict. We continue to sell shorts, cropped, dresses, but people can also buy shoulder pads. And we customize looks in real time for her. In addition to increasing sales, we realized that it adds value, draws attention, makes the store better known — says Dilceia.

There are those who earn income all year round working for Carnival, like in the samba schools. But the festive date can also inspire, as it is at Bella Filó, temporary adaptations in business.

— Various sectors are involved in the demand and consumption of Carnival. A restaurant can put on live music and prepare a Carnival program. Haberdashery, stationery stores and bazaars can sell products that are used in costumes and accessories. Travel agencies can prepare packages both to welcome those who come to enjoy Carnival in a big city and for those who want to escape the event. Seamstresses can make costumes. And so on. This is why annual business planning is so important. It is obvious that a commemorative date such as Carnival is a great opportunity for entrepreneurs — advises Sebrae’s Creative Economy coordinator, Carolyne Gomes.

Even small entrepreneurs can do this. Lorena Belmont, for example, makes and sells scrunchies and jewelry on her own. The business emerged during the pandemic, in September 2020, and this is the first time that it has a Carnival collection for sale, but its success is already unquestionable.

— I decided that I would go to street blocks to sell, as a way to expand my business. No sooner said than done. I am very happy with the result and the way people have valued my work. Sales grew by 70% and the expectation until the end of February is even greater – he says.

And prepare the team to provide good service, always.

Does it look good? Offering a makeup service with glitter and a fun hairstyle for Carnival is a good idea.

Sale. There is still time to produce or buy some props to sell to friends and revelers. Pet ornaments can be niche.

Meet needs. Cereal bar, bandage patch, peanuts, hangover medicine and pad can be sold separately or in small kits.

Hire items. An already assembled costume can be made available to acquaintances instead of being kept in the closet. Adhesives count too.
