In Manaus, MRV carries out an intense campaign with prevention tips and information about sun exposure

Manaus (AM) – MRV, the largest construction company in Latin America, joined the Brazilian Society of Dermatology (SBD), to reinforce the skin cancer awareness and prevention campaign, December Orange, promoted by the Brazilian Society of Dermatology. The company carries out a series of educational actions on construction sites throughout Brazil, on its social media, on closed TV, in addition to taking the topic to the MRV Arena, in Belo Horizonte. In Manaus, the event took place this Tuesday (28), at the construction site of the Mirante das Flores project, in Ponta Negra.

According to the National Cancer Institute (INCA), skin cancer is the most common in Brazil, corresponding to 33% of all malignant tumors registered in the country. Between 2023 and 2025, around 220,000 new cases are estimated, making it the most common type of cancer among men. In addition to genetics, the main cause of the disease is the lack of protection against UV rays from the sun. According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Labor Organization (ILO), one in three deaths from non-melanoma skin cancer is caused by ultraviolet radiation from outdoor work.

Given this scenario, MRV, which already has a constant prevention role, is carrying out, by joining the December Orange campaign, actions to reinforce awareness and change culture in favor of the correct use of sunscreen.

“The INCA numbers bring us a warning about the importance of information and education about skin cancer, especially in the construction sector, where more than 80% of workers are men. We have been making sunscreen available to teams on construction sites for over ten years, but we felt the need to go further, to show the relevance of prevention and early diagnosis.”,

As part of these actions we will have: lectures with dermatologists from the Brazilian Society of Dermatology at construction sites to raise awareness and prevent the disease, screening and medical care, distribution of the “ABCDE da mole” manual and Turma da Mônica themed comic books produced by SBD, for for workers to share with family members, in addition to the distribution of sunscreen.

Since 1999, the initiative has benefited more than 600 thousand people. In 2023, the expectation is to serve around 26 thousand people in 110 accredited stations across the country.

Dr. Heitor Gonçalves, president of the Brazilian Society of Dermatology, highlights the importance of providing information about prevention to those who work exposed to the sun, such as construction professionals.

“We have to demand that governments take action to promote the use of sunscreen. We already have this action with the National Congress and the Ministry of Health”,

The Orange December Campaign Coordinator, Dr. Carlos Barcaui, remembers that men, especially in non-recreational situations, have more difficulty using sunscreen. Women are more receptive:
