Singer Doris Monteiro died early this Monday (24), at the age of 88, according to information published by her official pages on social networks.

According to the statement, Doris was at home in Rio de Janeiro and died as a result of pneumonia and inflammatory bronchopathy.

The wake will be this Tuesday (25), from 10am to 1pm, at the Municipal Theater in Rio de Janeiro. The wake will continue at the Carmo Memorial, in Caju, from 2 pm to 4 pm, when the cremation will take place.

Doris was born in Rio de Janeiro on October 21, 1934, and debuted as a singer on Rádio Nacional, in 1947, on the program Carbon paperby Rento Murce, according to the Cravo Albin Dictionary of Brazilian Popular Music. His professional career, however, began in 1951, when he started working at Tupi Radio.

Among the compositions he performed over the more than 60 years of his career are songs by Sílvio César, Baden Powell, Vinicius de Moraes, Toquinho, Roberto and Erasmo Carlos, among others.

In addition to the extensive discography, the singer from Rio de Janeiro also starred in the program Meeting with Doris Monteiro!at Tupi TV from Rio de Janeiro, and participated in the films Needle in the haystack (1953), Carnival in Caxias (1954), From Wind to Stern (1957) and Copacabana Palace (1962).
