The volume of services provided in Brazil dropped by 3.1% in January, compared to December last year, according to data from the Monthly Services Survey, by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), released this Friday. (14). In the previous month, the result of the indicator was revised from 3.1% to 2.9%.

In the accumulated result for the year, the volume of services grew by 6.1% compared to January 2022. When considering the accumulated result for the last 12 months, the volume of services dropped to 8%, the value is the lowest result since September 2021.

The nominal gross revenue of the service sector rose 0.1% in January compared to December. Compared to January 2022, there was a 12.9% increase in nominal revenue.

Among the sectors indicated by the survey, 3 of the 5 activities retreated compared to the level of the quarter ended in December 2022: other services, -1.3%; information and communication, -0.5%; and transport, -0.2%. There were rises in services provided to families (1.0%) and professional, administrative and complementary services (0.8%).
