The State Department of Finance of Amazonas (Sefaz-AM) starts, this March, in the municipality of Tabatinga (1,108 kilometers from Manaus), the project “Sefaz in action”. For four days, from the 6th to the 9th of March, a team from the Secretariat will travel to the municipality in order to give free lectures to the local population and promote the training of civil servants and employees working in agencies and tax offices.

The project was formatted based on manifestations that reached the Secretariat through the communication channels of the Ombudsman’s Office (OUVFAZ).

“About a year and a half ago, the Ombudsman was established with the aim of offering society more efficient means of registering complaints, suggestions, compliments to sectors, employees and farm services or requests for clarification. Throughout this period, we identified the main points of doubt for residents of the interior of Amazonas, and a schedule of actions was created to help qualify these people”, reported Ellen Costa, head of the Sefaz-AM Ombudsman.

The Secretary of State for Finance, Alex Del Giglio, highlighted that the project starts in Tabatinga and that it will extend to another 17 municipalities to disseminate knowledge with a focus on combating tax evasion and regularization.

“In March, the ‘Sefaz in action’ project will be in Tabatinga. Later, on dates that will be announced in advance, it will arrive in Boca do Acre, Eirunepé, São Gabriel da Cachoeira, Tefé, Coari, Humaitá, Lábrea, Parintins, Maués, Manicoré, Itacoatiara, Apuí, Carauari, Presidente Figueiredo, Rio Preto da Eva , Manacapuru and Novo Aripuanã. The tax authorities will act mainly in the educational aspect. The State Government intends to instruct citizens so that society does not suffer from irregular actions”, anticipates Alex Del Giglio.

Training and seminar

In the municipality of Tabatinga, located on the border of Brazil with Colombia and Peru, the Sefaz team, made up of employees from the Fiscal Education Nucleus (NEF), from the Management of Collection of Decentralized Units (Gard) and from OUVFAZ will train employees of the Treasury Department who work in agencies and fiscal posts.

It is planned to hold a seminar with lectures for accountants, businessmen and students. Among the topics addressed, Tax Education and Citizenship, Entrepreneurship and the Amazon Invoice Campaign (NFA) stand out.

“The institutional function of taxes will be emphasized so that the population understands the purpose of this payment. The provision of public services in quantity and quality depends on revenue. Tax evasion must be fought by everyone because it causes damage to the community”, points out the tax auditor Augusto Bernardo Cecílio, coordinator of NEF and NFA.

Augusto Bernardo points out that, in Amazonas, taxpayers who request the electronic invoice with CPF can receive prizes. “More than 490,000 people registered their CPF to participate in the NFA and compete for prizes. Although companies from the state’s 62 municipalities are eligible to participate in the campaign, many residents do not participate due to lack of knowledge. We will clarify these issues for the inhabitants of these localities”.

Entrepreneurs

Sefaz points out that, due to lack of knowledge of the tax legislation and the rules for clearing goods, many companies in the interior of the state are left with restrictions that negatively impact commercial activities. The same occurs with micro-entrepreneurs and self-employed professionals, who sometimes do not close deals because they do not know how to legalize sales operations.

The head of the Gard, Joel Brito, clarifies that the Secretariat intends to address the issue through intensive training not only in Tabatinga, but also in Benjamin Constant.

“On this visit to the triple border area, which is difficult to access, we will take the opportunity to instruct artisans and rural producers on issuing separate electronic invoices, formalizing companies, settling outstanding debts and entrepreneurship. Participants will be able to clarify all doubts at no cost”, emphasized Joel.

The collection manager for the Decentralized Units believes that this work will result in a direct gain for the State in the future.

“With the right guidance, companies that currently operate underground can regularize themselves through legal opening in all spheres of power. Fulfilling the obligations benefits the municipalities, the State of Amazonas and the Union through the regular collection of taxes”, pointed out the server.
