See who can get the flu vaccine at SUS – 04/13/2023 – Health

The national vaccination carried out by the SUS against the flu began throughout Brazil last Monday (10). By action, people who are part of priority groups listed by the portfolio can be vaccinated free of charge.

Children from six months to six years old, health professionals, people over 60 years old and teachers from public and private schools are some of the groups that can receive the vaccine.

Below, see all eligible groups and details of how they can get the vaccine.

Children from 6 months to under 6 years old (5 years, 11 months and 29 days)

The child in this age group who has already taken a dose of the vaccine in previous years can take a new dose in the current campaign. If you have not been vaccinated before, the scheme is two doses: the first and, after 30 days, a new application.

For indigenous children or children with comorbidities, the age range is extended to nine years.

Pregnant women

Pregnant women are at greater risk of having severe illnesses caused by the flu. Therefore, they are eligible for a free vaccine dose through the national campaign.

In their case, the Ministry of Health does not require any proof of pregnancy, it is only necessary that the woman claims to be pregnant.

postpartum women

If a woman is within 45 days of giving birth, she can be immunized against the flu. If this is the case, it is necessary to present some document that proves the puerperium, such as a birth certificate or a document from the hospital where the baby was born.

indigenous

Any indigenous person older than six months can be immunized. This includes those in recognized villages as well as those on land not yet recognized. Coverage also includes those indigenous people who are not living in their territory.

Health professionals

The group includes public and private network workers. It also extends to those who work in the support area, such as hospital receptionists, ambulance drivers and cooks at health institutions.

Professionals who provide services with home care, such as caregivers for the elderly, and health students can also get vaccinated.

Individuals aged 60 years or older

It is an important group for the fight against the flu because it is more likely to develop a serious condition. For them, it is necessary to present some document that proves their age.

teachers

It includes teachers from public and private networks, both in basic and higher education. The Ministry of Health advises that a document is presented that proves the performance as a teacher.

People with non-communicable chronic diseases and other special medical conditions

Different types of individuals enter this elective group for vaccination. People with chronic respiratory, heart, kidney, diabetic or obese diseases are some examples.

Permanently disabled people

For the ministry, this group includes those with great difficulty or inability to walk or climb stairs, hear even with the use of a hearing aid, see even with the use of glasses and those with some permanent intellectual disability that limits their usual activities.

No supporting document is required: only the individual’s self-declaration is sufficient.

Professionals from the security and rescue forces and the Armed Forces

Federal, military, civil and road police, military and civil firefighters and municipal guards make up this group. A document proving the performance is required.

truck drivers

Those who work in professional road freight transport are eligible for the vaccine. A document with proof of work is required.

Urban and long-distance public road passenger transport workers

Drivers and collectors, both urban or long-distance transport, can take the vaccine through SUS. All you need is a document that proves the work.

port workers

Anyone who works in a port falls into this group —including those in the administrative sector. Again, a document proving the employment relationship is essential at the time of vaccination.

Population deprived of liberty, employees of the system of deprivation of liberty and adolescents and young people from 12 to 21 years of age under socio-educational measures

Vaccination of this population should take place in prisons through articulation with state and municipal health departments and state departments of justice.

According to the Ministry of Health, among health professionals, those who work in the system of deprivation of liberty are the priority.
