This year’s reality music show on South Korean broadcaster Mnet’s Boys Planet announced on Thursday the 52 contestants remaining in the competition, which aims to form a new nine-member K-pop boy group. The scheme is similar to Girls Planet 999 which, in 2021, ended with the creation of the female ensemble Kep1er. Young people, divided into groups by nationality, compete for the dream of debuting in the music industry. In the current edition, the groups are divided into two, one Korean and one global.

It is worth noting that, among the top nine, is Lee Hoe-taek, known as Hui, who has already gained worldwide fame for being part of the group Pentagon, managed by Cube Entertainment since 2016.

His story is reminiscent of Choi Yujin, who conquered fans around the world while he was active with the group CLC, also from Cube. For persisting in moving forward in her artistic career, she ended up debuting again in K-pop by being one of the finalists of Girls Planet 999 and joining the lineup of Kep1er.

In the midst of the reality show, which in Brazil can be watched on the Viki Rakuten streaming platform, some trainees stood out in a performance of “Back Door”, original by Stray Kids, and gained the benefit of appearing on the M Countdown program, one of the most famous K-pop. The performance was posted on Mnet’s YouTube channel on Thursday. Watch:

After the elimination, which removed the contestants from positions 53 to 93, almost everyone who covered “Back Door” for the Korean team passed. Kim Ji Woong and Han Yu Jin even ranked 3rd and 4th in the overall standings, respectively. The others who remain are: Kim Tae Rae (11), Kum Jun Hyeon (14), Yoon Jong Woo (38) and Ji Yun Seo (47).

Only Kim Min Seoung was eliminated among those selected to go to M Countdown. He ranked 58th in the public poll.
