See the neighborhoods with the highest dengue transmission in SP – 01/31/2024 – Health

In the month of January, for every 100 thousand inhabitants of the city of São Paulo, approximately 15 were diagnosed with dengue. A total of 1,792 cases were confirmed in the first three weeks of the year — a historic record for the period.

The capital’s neighborhoods and districts, however, do not face the transmission of the disease in the same way. While Brás had no cases of dengue in the last month, Jaguara, in the west zone, had around 534 diagnoses per 100,000 inhabitants.

The incidence coefficient (INC), which compares cases per 100,000 inhabitants, allows us to determine in which areas there is greater or lesser transmission of the disease.

According to him, Jaguara is the neighborhood with the highest rate of dengue transmission in São Paulo (there were 127 confirmed cases in January). Itaquera, in the east zone, and Vila Leopoldina, in the west zone, also have a high transmission rate.

Itaquera had the highest absolute number of dengue cases registered in the capital: 188. Its incidence rate of 88, however, is lower than that of Jaguara.

In Vila Leopoldina, the State Department of Health confirmed 35 cases, with a transmission rate of 76.2 (i.e., approximately 76 cases per 100,000 inhabitants).

In absolute numerical terms, the neighborhoods in the north and east of the city are those with the most confirmed dengue cases.

The City of São Paulo, through the Municipal Health Secretariat (SMS), says that it has increased the number of agents on the streets to combat dengue, which went from 2,000 to 12 thousand, and that there was also the acquisition of 15 thousand liters of insecticides for nebulization (smoke) against mosquitoes Aedes aegypti.

Municipal management also states that it has expanded the fleet of cars to transport agents with 113 minivans and 30 new vehicle fogging equipment and that it has purchased and distributed 20,000 larvicide self-dissemination traps in all regions of the city, with a history of higher incidence of cases of the disease.

“This year, 306,619 actions to prevent Aedes aegypti and, in 2023, there were 5,317,437 actions, such as house-to-house visits, inspections of properties and strategic points, actions to block breeding sites and fogging, guidance to the population, among other activities”, he says in a note.

Dengue hospitalizations in São Paulo

The City of São Paulo states that, in the municipal network, 14 people are hospitalized with dengue, nine adults and three children with classic dengue and two people with hemorrhagic dengue this Wednesday (31).

Regarding beds, the Municipal Health Department (SMS) clarifies that the municipality is prepared to meet the demand and will open more as necessary.

Data from epidemiological week number three of this year were updated on Monday (29) and 1,792 cases of dengue fever have been confirmed in residents of the city of São Paulo, with no deaths recorded from dengue fever to date.

Saturday will have D-Day to combat dengue

The City of São Paulo will promote this Saturday (3) D-Day to combat dengue throughout the capital of São Paulo. The 471 UBSs (Basic Health Units) will be open from 8 am to 5 pm to care for patients who present symptoms of dengue, such as high fever, body and joint pain, pain behind the eyes, malaise, lack of appetite, pain head and red spots on the body. As part of the strategy, agents to combat endemic diseases (ACEs) from the 28 Health Surveillance Units (Uvis) and community health agents (ACSs) and from the capital of São Paulo will carry out house-to-house control actions, blocking breeding sites, identification of stagnant water points and other mosquito breeding sites, guidance on prevention and care, inspection of special properties and strategic points, such as junkyards, vehicle dismantling workshops, tire repair shops, cemeteries, among others.

The task force against the mosquito that transmits dengue fever is being organized by the Health Surveillance Coordination (Covisa), of the Municipal Health Department (SMS).
