Before these announcements, investors will also pay attention to the release of the Beige Book, a document that summarizes the economic outlook and serves as the basis for the decisions of the Fed (Federal Reserve, the US central bank). There will also be two speeches by Fed Chairman Jerome Powell.

The stock market closed higher this Friday (3rd), with a decisive contribution from the shares of Petrobras and other exporters. Data show a strong recovery of the Chinese economy, which directly impacts these papers.

The dollar, which rose against the real until the beginning of the afternoon, closed slightly lower, below R$ 5.20. Earlier in the day, statements by members of the government criticizing the Central Bank weighed more. This afternoon, the performance is more in line with the international scenario.

The Ibovespa closed the day up 0.64% to 103,992 points. In the week, the index accumulated a fall of 1.8%. The spot commercial dollar closed down by 0.11%, at R$5.199. Compared to last week, the currency was virtually flat.

The interest rate futures market closed with slight increases. Upon maturity in January 2024, the rate went from 13.34% per annum at the close of this Thursday (2) to 13.38% per annum. For January 2025, interest rates rose from 12.79% to 12.85%. For January 2027, the rate closed stable at 13.18%.

In the early hours of this Friday, the service sector activity index in China, the PMI, was released, which rose from 52.9 points in January to 55 points in February. When this index is above 50, it indicates acceleration in segment performance. The higher it is, the faster the growth rate.

China is one of the largest consumers of oil and iron ore in the world, and the economic acceleration indicates that there will be greater demand for products.

Petrobras shares, which started the day influenced by uncertainties about the price policy, closed with increases of 3.64%, in the case of common shares, and 4.30% in preferred shares. Common shares in 3R Petroleum and PRIO were up 4.89% and 2.21%, respectively. Brent crude is up 1.45%, with a barrel approaching the $86 level.

Steelmakers and other exporters are also benefiting from this improvement in China’s economy. The common shares of CSN and CSN Mineração advanced 2.64% and 2.46%, respectively. Usiminas’ preferred class A paper closed up 1.12%. Suzano’s common rose 3.21%, and JBS’ common rose 1.60%.

In the United States, stock indices also rise. Over there, investors are trying to position themselves on how the economy will behave after the January data came in higher than expected, and the reaction of the Fed (Federal Reserve, the US central bank) to this environment.

The Dow Jones index closed the day up 1.17%. The S&P 500 advanced 1.61%. The Nasdaq ended up 1.97%.
