With Mother’s Day, May 2023 should have the best sales result for the month in 15 years, according to a forecast by Fecomércio-SP (Federation of Trade in Goods, Services and Tourism of the State of São Paulo). The growth expectation is 3%, and is related to the sectors most affected by the date.

The clothing, textiles and footwear sector, which is usually the busiest in the period, is expected to grow by 7%. However, in view of the 18.02% inflation in 2022, the entity recommends that the consumer do a good research among the gift options.

The C&A department store, for example, indicates that all products from the Bel&za C&A makeup line cost less than R$76, and it is possible to buy two or three with a budget of R$100.

Another opportunity in terms of makeup is the multifunctional palette Marília Mendonça, by Océane. With bronzer, blush and highlighter, it is available for R$ 73.50 on the Época Cosméticos website.

Other sectors of the department store have prices up to R$100. A green turtleneck blouse goes for R$39.99, a hexagonal sunglasses for R$49.90 and a small crossbody bag for R$99.99.

The furniture and decoration sector, which has growth of 4% expected for the month, is less accessible. “Despite the favorable data estimated for May, it is a segment that largely depends on credit which, in turn, is more expensive due to high interest rates”, says the entity in a note.

For image consultant Gabriela Ganem, it is convenient to explore the emotional and symbolic aspect of the date. “A gift with affective value, something personalized, a tribute… Or even an experience like breakfast or a nice walk”, she says.

In the material field, Ganem suggests a mother-daughter necklace or pendant, a scapular or a picture frame with significant or old photos. “If it’s not really your mother’s style, it could be something along the lines of self-care, like an at-home spa or a massager, something that shows you care about her.”

Stores like Uatt offer Mother’s Day-themed products for less than R$100. The accordion frame goes for R$89.90 on the website, while the wall of photos and messages costs R$69.90. The glass mug with infuser costs R$ 69.90.

Still, promotions make it easier for some products to fit the budget. At Leroy Merlin there are scented candles for R$69.90 and decorative paintings from R$49.90.

In addition, it is important to consider the personality, habits, preferences and style of the person receiving the gift. “The worst gift is not the one of small value, but the one that implies that we don’t know her as well as we should. A perfume for an allergic mother or a lipstick for a woman who doesn’t wear makeup can be very frustrating”, she exemplifies.
