Searches for the expression “minimum wage” on Google had a record in January, according to a survey by big tech, which registered the highest number of searches for the subject since the beginning of the historical series, in 2004.
The theme heated up amid discussions in the government about the minimum level. Last week, Lula decided to grant an additional readjustment for the year, raising the national floor from R$1,302 to R$1,320.
According to Google, February maintained the peak of searches and is already the second month with more records for the term in the last 19 years. Third in the ranking is the month of January 2022, followed by January 2020 and January 2019.
In the historical series, Brazil is the fifth country in the world with the most interest in the subject. It is behind only Colombia, Venezuela, Turkey and Paraguay.
Questions like “who raised the minimum wage for 2023?”, “what was the minimum wage increase for 2022?” and comparisons such as “how much was the minimum wage in 2019?”, the first year of the Jair Bolsonaro government, are among the most searched in the last seven days.
