An American science fiction magazine has announced that it has banned hundreds of authors after receiving numerous works written by artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots.
Neil Clarke, editor-in-chief of science fiction and fantasy magazine Clarksworld, told his Twitter followers on Tuesday that he had banned more than 500 authors in February for their “machine-generated” submissions.
Before robots like ChatGPT, capable of writing texts in a fluid and versatile language, Clarksworld was limited to rejecting just a few authors each month, usually for evidence of plagiarism, explained Clarke.
“Our regulation states that we don’t want works written or made with the help of AI,” he said.
But “they don’t care. They just lie,” he added.
ChatGPT, created by the Californian company OpenAI, which received billions of dollars from Microsoft, raises heated debates about intellectual property and academic fraud.
